Residents have an opportunity to have their names engraved in bricks that will surround a new sundial paying tribute to the strength of family in River Forest.

The Family Garden Sundial is an Eagle Scout Project led by Adam Potter, a member of Boy Scout Troop 65 and a rising high school senior at OPRFHS. It is meant enhance River Forest by providing a destination spot while underscoring the importance of family to the community.

Working in conjunction with the River Forest Park District, Potter and members of Troop 65 will install this monument in the center of the existing community herb garden on the corner of Augusta Street and Keystone Avenues this fall.

“I have heard my entire life about how important families are to life in River Forest," Potter said. “That is why I chose to design a tribute to families as my Eagle Scout project.”

The monument will be a stone and concrete pedestal topped with a custom-designed bronze sundial and surrounded by bricks engraved with the names of River Forest families. The sundial is inscribed “Familia Ante Omnia” or “Family Over All” and will make the garden a destination spot.

The project will be funded by donations and the sale of inscribed bricks. Click here for more information and to order inscribed bricks for your family:
